How is liquid gypsum different from granular or powdered gypsum?
The mineral is the same, calcium sulphate. The difference is speed and reach. Granular and powdered gypsum are cheaper by weight but dissolve slowly and need working into the soil. Micronised liquid gypsum dissolves within hours, spreads evenly through a watering can, and reaches the root zone under turf without digging, though it costs more per kilo of mineral.
Which one suits you comes down to the job. If you are improving a bare bed before planting and can fork material in, granular gypsum is economical and fine. If you need to treat soil under an existing lawn or border, or you want calcium available quickly, the liquid earns its higher price. The table sets the three common calcium options side by side.

Use lime only when you actually want to raise pH. For calcium without a pH change, gypsum is the right tool.
