Collection: Amino Acids

What are Amino Acids?

Amino acids are organic compounds (usually sold as liquid biostimulants or powder) that contain ready-made building blocks of proteins. They come from hydrolysed plant proteins, fish, or animal by-products.

Common products: amino-acid blends, seaweed + amino, fish hydrolysate, soy-based aminos.

Why use them on plants or in soil?

  1. Quick stress relief – heat, drought, frost, transplant shock, salinity; amino acids help plants recover faster.
  2. Boost photosynthesis & growth – glycine, glutamic acid, proline etc. act as natural biostimulants; plants grow faster and stronger with less energy cost.
  3. Improve nutrient uptake – they chelate minerals (make iron, zinc, etc. more available) and stimulate root hairs.
  4. Increase flowering & fruit set – often raises pollen viability and reduces flower/fruit drop.
  5. Feed beneficial microbes – soil bacteria and mycorrhizae love amino acids as a food source.
  6. Raise brix & flavour – higher sugar/protein content = sweeter fruit and better shelf life.
  7. Replace or reduce synthetic hormones – many growers use aminos instead of gibberellins or cytokinins.

When they shine

  • During rapid growth phases (seedling → veg → bloom transition)
  • After extreme weather or pest attack
  • In hydroponics or poor soils where plants struggle to make their own aminos

In short: amino acids are like a protein shake + multivitamin for plants; they don’t replace fertiliser or soil conditioners, but give an extra performance kick when plants are under pressure or you want top quality.
